NO (normally open) contact is typically used with a push button ON. NC (normally close) contact is normally used with a push button OFF.
The operation of NO contact in the normal state (not pressed), the terminal position is not connect (open). Pressing the push button connects the terminal (close). The operation of NC contact is reversed.
